【摘要】:Testsrunonmanyclaysgenerallyindicatethatastraight-linerelationshipexistsbetweenthemethyleneblueindex(MBI)andsuchfundamentalclaypropertiesascationexchangecapacity,drybondstrength,andcastingrate.Wherethecolloidalportionoftheclayiskaolinite,thereisalsoadirectcorrelationwithspecificsurface(asdeterminedbynitrogenadsorption).Wherethecolloidalportioncontainssignificantamountsofilliteormontmorillonite,thesameclosecorrelationdoesnotexist.TheMBIbettercorrelateswiththeceramic-formingpropertiesthandoesthespecificsurface.Thatportionofaclaylyingwithinthecolloidalrange(generallydefinedasthe0.5-to0.001-x03BC;mrange),determinesthestrictlycolloidalpropertiesoftheclayand,togetherwiththeamountandtypeoforganicmaterialassociatedwiththeclayandthe2-to0.2-x03BC;mfraction,largelydeterminesthepropertiesoftheclaywhenusedinceramic-formingprocesses.Whilethespecificsurfaceofaclayisafunctionoftheparticlesizeandmorphologyandarelationshipexistsbetweendyeadsorptionandspecificsurface,theMBIshouldnotbeconsideredtobeaparticlesizeanalysissincethevalueobtainedisdominatedbythecharacterofonlytheveryfineendoftheparticlesizedistribution.Thisproceduredescribesthedeterminationofthedyeadsorption(inthiscase,methyleneblue)ofaclay.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthemeasurementoftheadsorptionofmethylenebluedyebyaclay,whichiscalculatedasamethyleneblueindexforaclay.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyproblems,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
